Who we are
The Ophelia Osinachi Matthews Foundation is more than an organization, we are a movement of compassion, innovation, and action. Our work bridges the gap between rural Africa’s healthcare challenges and the possibilities of modern medicine.
Founded by Dr. Ophelia Osinachi Matthews, a Nigerian-born and U.S.-trained medical professional, the foundation was created to address a painful reality: in underserved communities, people are dying from preventable and treatable illnesses simply because there is no access to diagnostic tools, medical facilities, or timely intervention.
The turning point came in 2025, after Dr. Ophelia lost her beloved uncle, Gilmore Udeji, to diabetes and hypertension — conditions that could have been managed if diagnosed early. This loss became the seed of a vision: to establish a world-class medical diagnostic center in the heart of rural Nigeria that could provide accurate, rapid, and affordable diagnostics, giving people the chance to live the healthy lives they deserve.
We operate with a deep sense of responsibility to our roots — to the veterans, farmers, artisans, women, and children who form the backbone of our communities, yet have been long overlooked by formal healthcare systems. Our programs combine cutting-edge medical technology, community-based outreach, and cultural understanding to create lasting change.
From our Ophelia Medical Diagnostic Center in Amalin Ngugo to our annual Free Medical & Food Day and health education campaigns, everything we do is driven by one belief:

Serving ex-Biafran veterans, their families, and vulnerable community members with free healthcare and meals.

Our Story in Action
Since 2013, Dr. Ophelia has funded
and organized annual free medical and food programs, often at personal sacrifice, working extra shifts in the United States to sustain them.
In 2025, her vision expanded into a fully equipped medical diagnostic center, ensuring that life-saving healthcare would no longer be out of reach for her people.
